Show Teacher salaries okayed District salary schedules fpr the 1977-78 1977-78 year were approved and authorization to send out contracts was given at the meeting of the Iron County School District in session Tuesday. The District included seVeral items in the negotiation package with teachers for the coming year. Included was a base increase of 4.1 percent and percentage index figures were increased in-creased in the schedule making an average increase of six percent. Increments, In-crements, Lane changes and early retirement was estimated to be an increase of approximately one-half percent and an increase in health insurance in-surance costs, to be paid by the district, was estimated at one percent bringing the total package to 7.5 percent for the year, according to Jay Overson, president of the board. In negotiations with classified personnel per-sonnel in the district the increase was based on a straight hourly wage increase. in-crease. The final figure agreed upon by the District and the representatives was 32 cents per hour for all levels. In addition administrative salaries and District salaries were negotiated and approved based on the increase authorized on the basic teacher schedule with allowances for administrative ad-ministrative responsibility including both the level of administration, the size of the school unit, and duration of contract. Other Items in the Package In the negotiation process some minor changes in the orderly dismissal program were approved, the sick leave, which is on a semi-unlimited basis, was reviewed and left intact, as was the early retirement plan. For teachers the work day was reduced by one half hour from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the understanding that teachers would be available for special meetings, faculty meetings and such activities as parent-teacher conferences con-ferences etc. Accept changes in Swimming Pool The board also reviewed and accepted ac-cepted revised plans for the proposed joint Swimming Pool Complex. Changes, as recommended by the Architect John Rowley, were authorized which the board hopes will sufficiently reduce the cost of the project to fall within the available funds of the two agencies. Based on approval of the plans by the Cedar City Council in session this evening a date of June 21 at 7 p.m. at the Iron County School District w as set to open bids with the new-specifications. new-specifications. Several major changes were recommended including the elimination of the permanent gallery for spectator purposes; a major change in the roof structural system, the elimination of coin operated lockers and the elimination of the proposed basement and relocation of storage and equipment constituted the major changes recommended for the project. Other changes were approved in the bidding system, some changes in mechanical specifications and other varied item. |
