Show Area women attend I monument dedication "A Monument to Women", 13 bronze statues representing the different areas of a woman's influence, in-fluence, was dedicated by President Spencer W. Kimball, world leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on Wednesday, June 28 at Nauvoo, Illinois. Ward and Stake Relief Society leaders attending the service from Cedar City Utah West Stake were Beverly H. Whiting, Mildred S. Cardon, Alice B. Peterson, Peter-son, Rhea T. Heaton and Luree S. Schmutz. Attending from the SUSC Stake Relief Society were Maridon S. Nielsen, Peg B. Thorley, Carmen R. Hepworth, Tammy Nay, Cheryl Bleak, Elayne Brough, Trudy Savage and Patty Marshall. Many former Cedar City residents were also at the dedication, including Carol Hafen Broadbent who sang with the combined Relief Society Choir from Chicago Illinois Area Stakes. The Monument to Women consists of a heroic central sculpture of a woman supplemented by 12 life-size figures which admirably hi.iliiin. jjiiiiuniiuinii.mi.iii...iiii...i.,-. -i express the multifaceted nature of women's vitral role in society. j "This monument is a statement of faith in God and i faith in self," General Relief 1 1 Society President Barbara j B. Smith said. "It expresses 1 1 our hope for the future, inspires courage to meet i adversity, and offers direction that will lead us to do much good. ' i "We hope that every woman seeing these bronze figures will see herself stepping into the future, ( confidently, with her head i1 held high, knowing that there is within her the capacity of eternal (' progression and the strength to meet whatever life has to 1 1 offer." The group of local ladies i 1 visited restored buildings and homes in Nauvoo and ji attended the pageant "Because of Elizabeth". They also visited the Far S West Temple site, Adam- Ondi-Ahman, Liberty Jail, i Carthage Jail on the an- ( niversary of the very day and hour that the prophet (' was killed, Independence visitors center and Winter Quarters Cemetery before , returning home. i & - .t ' ii ....
