Show Reagan gets feel for presidential chances I Although he may have been officially of-ficially stumping for fellow Republican Dan Marriott, who is up for re-election, former California Governor Ronald Reagan might also have been feeling the political wind as to his presidential chances. And in Southern Utah, it appears the winds are quite favorable. Reagan was in St. George for an evening of receptions and rallies, before leaving to make a similar appearance on behalf of Nevada Congressman Paul Laxalt. Even though he never said he was planning to make a second bid for the White House, he did say he was "not closing any doors." "I haven't announced yet, so all I can say is 'Hang loose'," Reagai said. "It is still early." He did, however, dismiss the idea he was too old to be President. During a question period involving audience participants, an enthusiastic en-thusiastic supporter urged the prominent conservative to run, pledging his support. Marriott also stated to elect Reagan would be "one of the answers to the ills of this country." In a pre-rally news conference, Reagan, who was not able to gain the Republican nomination in the 1976 convention, said he was "sorry that Jimmy Carter was elected president" and that although he didn't particularly par-ticularly want the vice-presidential spot to Gerald Ford, he may have been forced to take it if his party had asked him. . : - .. - - |
