Show In ouropinion - It'sgoodtohave 'Old Will' around We have said it before and undoubtedly un-doubtedly we will say it again, it is good to have the Shakespearean Festival. It is indeed one of the highlights of the year in Cedar City. Merchants build sales around it, SUSC spends thousands on it, actors across the nation audition for it, scores of locals stay up late six nights a week for it, and theatre lovers throughout the west flock to it. And we appreciate it. Each year, the local edition of three Shakespearean plays receives nationwide laudits and some magazines rate the Cedar City version as the nations third best. We hope and expect this year's production to maintain that lofty praise. Early week screenings indicate "Twelfth Night," for example, will most likely be a well-attended crowd-pleaser, crowd-pleaser, with good, rollicking comedy. To those making Cedar City their home away from home for the late summer months -- staff and crew -- we say "Welcome." To those attending the Festival as ticket purchasing entusiasts we offer a similar salutation and offer the services of our city and surrounding areas, Urging you to stay an extra day. Perhaps no month is busier than July, with two holidays, reunions of all sorts, fund-raisers, farm work, sports and a bagfull of other activities, but we hope Iron County residents will make a spot for William Shakespeare on their calendars, as it is well-deserved. |
