Dennis Dalley presents awards to First Lieutenant Robert Mayfield and First Sergeant Jerry Ward at Annual Military Ball sponsored by the Cedar City National Guard. local National Guard Battery hold Birthday Party; Awards Ceremony By LaVar M. Hadley The local battery of the Utah National Guard met this weekend the 20th of March. The morning was spent doing the usual duties and training that the local men know the procedures necessary in the event that war time tactics become necessary in the future. In the evening the Battery's Birthday was celebrated. There . was a very well organized banquet and awards ceremony. I am sure all who attended enjoyed en-joyed the entire affair. A word of gratitude should be extended to the cooks for the absolutely perfect meal they prepared for this occasion. . In accordance with this Bicentennial year we , honored those men of this area who were called to active duty during the Korean conflict. We were proud to have some of these men in attendance at our party. Sgt. Maj. Bonzo read an account ac-count of the units history starting at the beginning, the Mormon Battalion. After this enlightening speech we heard from our ex-commander ex-commander Cpt. James Hoyle. His speech was about the activation ac-tivation and . combat achievements of the Battery in Korea. This unit received a Presidential Commendation for the heroic actions they performed per-formed in Korea, so we can give a big thanks to these men who served us and our country in this action. After these speeches awards were presented, some on the light side and then those that were very serious and meaningful. Awards were given to the wives of the guardsmen in thanks for the support they give to us as we go to perform our duties. The final event of the evening was a dance. We all appreciate those who organized the party and thank them for a job well done. ,. So that the community will be aware-next month we will be going to Camp Williams for the annual Olympics. |
