Show Changes to be made in school precincts A . proposal for reapportionment reap-portionment of the five School Precincts for Iron County was presented to the Iron County Commission at their meeting Wednesday by a three-man committee composed of Graham MacDonald, Commission chairman; Hans Chamberlain, Iron County Attorney and Dr. Clair Morris, Iron County School Superintendent. The proposal would bring the five precincts into near balance in total population, but would result in new boundaries for each of the districts. . In Cedar City the three precincts,' under the proposal, which has tentatively been accepted ac-cepted by members of the School Board on an individual basis, would be as follows: . Precinct 3: Everything east of Main Street and the old Highway 91 but extending north from the present boundaries and south to include Kanarraville. Precinct 4 : This precinct would encompass that area of Cedar City bounded on the north by Center Street, on the east by Main Street and old U.S. Highway High-way 91 and on the West by Interstate In-terstate 15. The area would continue south to the intersection of 91 and the Interstate system. Precinct 5: This precinct would include that area bounded on the south by Center Street on the East by Main Street and the old U. S. Highway 91 and oh the West by Interstate 15. The north boundary would be the Union Pacific Railroad tracks running from the Interstate East to a point near 200 East where the line would pick up at coal creek and run on east to Main Street. Precinct 2: This precinct would be expanded from Parowan to include the entire northwest portion of the county and include the communities of Summit, Parowan, Paragonah , and Brian Head as well as those -' living in the surrounding areas. Precinct 1: This' precinct would include the county at large and all areas not covered by the . ' other precincts. It would include portions of Cedar City west of Interstate 15 including the Ridge Road area and would place all of the Cedar Valley, area north of ; the railroad tracks and Coal Creek jnto this district. The committee pointed out that in order to conform to existing voting district that some changes' would have to be made in this area. , It was proposed by Commissioner Com-missioner MacDonald that, the area of Cedar City West of In-. terstate 15 be designated as a new voting district and that a new district be formed in the - , Cedar Valley area. Those proposed changes and additions will have to be worked out by the Commission. . , ,. |
