Show Howe berates TV producer 1 ' Congressman Allen Howe has told the executive produper of the CBS Television presentation committed a serious error of ommission whey they neglected to include any statements of Utah's local Kane County residents in their story broadcast on the proposed Kaiparowits Power Plant Sunday, March 21. In a letter to Don Hewitt, Executive Producer of 60 Minutes, Rep. Howe said, "I was happy to see that reporter Dan Rather included statements by prominent spokesmen on both sides of the issue, but I did feel that the report had one serious ommision in that it did not include in-clude any statements from residents of Kane County, who because they live where the ' project will be built have the . most interest in its fate and who, according to opinion polls overwhelmingly favor .the project." Congressman went on to state that the proposed, Kaiparowits Power Plant, because of its size and location has caused a great deal of controversy. It is not surprising that prominent people on both sides have spoken out on the issue and have been labeled for lack of a more accurate term, pro-environment or pro-industry. But, I believe that in any discussion of Kaiparowits the people who live in the area and the people who state the project would most effect should have a voice, if not the strongest voice." |
