Public opinion concerning a study of potential mining and transportation of coal from the Kaiparowits Plateau is being sought by the study's steering committee. com-mittee. The study is being carried out jointly by state and federal agencies. A steering committee is chaired by Gerald E. Magnuson, chief of the planning and environmental coordination section of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management's Utah state office. That committee has prepared a "Statement of Work", document which includes character and extent of the study; background information; purpose, components and scope of the work; criteria for acceptance of the study (which will be done mostly by contract) and funding. The statement of work is being mailed to known interested in-terested groups and individuals, in-dividuals, according to Paul L. Howard. BLM Utah state director.
