Show Teacher contracts negotiated An agreement on salary schedules lor teachers in the Iron County School District was approved this week by the Iron County School Board and the Iron County Education Association. Under the agreement starting salaries in the district were increased approximately seven percent to $10,286 while the overall increase for salaries was settled at 7.69 percent. The maximum salary for a teacher with a bachelor's degree will be $14,400. For teachers with master's' degrees thestarting salary was set at $11,315 and the maximum, with 15 years experience was set at $17,692. Dr. J. Clair Morris, superintendent of the Iron County School district indicated that the increases were "in line with the guidelines as established by President Carter." Salaries in the Iron County District during the current school year have been below state averages, it was pointed out. For a teacher with a bachelor's degree just entering the system Iron County ranked 31st out of 40 school districts. The average for the state lor this year was $9770 as compared to $9613 in Iron County. Another comparable taken into consideraiton was salaries in Washington County. Starting salaries in Washington County were $9750, or 20th overall. Other comparables for Iron County during the current year deals with maximum earning capacity. For teachers with a Bachelor's degree the maximum salary ranked 38th out of 40 districts while Washington County was ranked 25th. For teachers with a Master's Degree Iron County ranked 28th for starting salaries and 27th for maximum earning capacity while Washington County was ranked third and tenth respectively. "We will not know how Iron County will rank this year until all of the districts have completed negotiations," Dr. Morris stated.
