Show Myths of Alcohol Drinking exposed The myths about alcohol are still very much al'-.e and well, reports the ' .-.i State Division of Alcoholism and Drugs. A recent survey found the following: --About 53 percent of Americans still believe that a cup of strong, black coffee will have a sobering effect. --Even more (68 percent) believe that a cold shower will do the job. "Both may make you feel more alert, but that is a long way from being sober," says William D. Payne, acting director of the State Division of Alcoholism and Drugs. "Time is the only thing that sobers a person up," he adds. - Seventy percent believe there is less alcohol in a can of beer than in a drink. --Eighty percent believe drinking only one kind of drink is less intoxicating than mixing drinks. All four of these myths, of course, are wrong according to Bill Beurts, director of the Driving Under the Influence (DUD program at the State Division. The survey was conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. |
