A highly successful Annual Banquet drew 104 people last week and special entertainment was provided by the Walunas family, the Cedar City High School Country Fiddle Group and the Southern Utah State College Talent Bureau. A report on the past year's activities ac-tivities was made by outgoing president Jack Carter. "Membership and involvement are the two prime objectives of the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce for the 1979 Year," Harold Hiskey, newly elected president stated following the first meeting of the board on Monday. New directors and officers of the Chamber were announced at the annual banquet held last Wednesday eveing at the Town and . Country Restaurant. Elected to the board, along with Hiskey were Brent White, who was named vice president; Tamara Park, Les Childs and Paul' Whetman. The new board held their first meeting Monday and established the need for development of the membership. mem-bership. Outgoing president Jack Carter indicated that there are approximately ap-proximately 500 businesses in Cedar City. The Chamber has only about 40 percent of those businesses as members, it was pointed out. Plan Drive An extensive membership drive is being planned for the end of January. "At that time we will be inviting potential members to identify their willingness to serve on committees of the Chamber for which they have an interest as well as expertise," Hiskey said. In an interview with the newly elected president and vice president--both new to the board this year-they indicated that they would continue many of the"traditional" activities of the Chamber as well as try to develop newer and broader interests. "We hope to continue to support the annual steak fry which has been used to defray the cost of the Chamber building, the Annual Freshman Dinner at the College Ranch in connection con-nection with Southern Utah State College, the Annual Barb's Banquet and cooperative efforts, with the 'Prospector's Club' which was described by James Hoyle as the 'energizer of the Chamber', "they stated. Board Assignmennts Initial assignments of board members to committee to begin the organizational structure were made at the meeting. "However, the full committees will not be completed until after the membership drive," Hiskey indicated. Committee assignments were announced as follows: Tourist Association and Conventions: Con-ventions: S. Garth Jones, Chamber Executive Secretary. Community Affairs, Public Safety, Crime Prevention and Control: Ernie Humphrey. Retail Merchants and Wholesale Activities: Tamara Park and Brent White. College and Public Schools: Kent Corry and Don Marchant. Industrial Development: Jack Carter and Brent White. Membership, Public Relations and Advertising: Paul Whetman and Don Marchant. Legislative and Government Relations: S. Garth Jones. Special Events and Attractions: Les Childs. Recreation and Development: Pat Creamer. Special Events Center: Don Marchant.
