Ip other games played in Region Six this past week Dixie scored an overtime victory over Timpview High School at St. George to drop Timpview into a tie for second pJace. Provo came up with their second victory of the season with a 19-13 overtime victory over Payson. Spanish Fork, after suffering suf-fering their first loss of the season against Timpview the previous week, came back to post a 13-0 win over Pleasant Grove to remain in first place in the region standings. Cedar High School Red-men Red-men gave the visiting Cavemen of American Fork a run for their money in a tough defensive battle Thursday afternoon before losing 14-6. The Cavemen are in the running for one of the three spots in the Class 3A playoffs from Region . Six with a record of five wins and two losses which made the game against the Redmen a critical one for the Utah Valley club. Coach Jim Dalton's Redmen got on the boards first on a pass from quarterback quar-terback Dave Edwards to Chris Lamoreaux, but the point after attempt by Kevin Robinson was wide. The Cavemen came right back with a 71 yard drive capped by a three yard plunge by Kaylin Street to knot the score at 6-all and captured the lead when Todd Cooper kicked the extra point. The final score of the game came in the second period by the Cavemen when Mark Hawkins picked off a Cedar pass and returned it to the 37. From there the Cavemen drove over for the score and converted the PAT for a 14-6 lead. The second half was a defensive struggle with the Redmen threatening but never able to push in the score. The Cavemen held on for the victory as the two clubs go into the final week of action in regular Region PHS Volleyballers defeat Beaver Wednesday, October 19, the PHS girls' volleyball team boosted their region record to 3-0 in a tight match with the Beaver Beavers. The Rams had previously beaten Enterprise at home, and Milford at Milford. The Rams came out strong in the first of three games with a demanding 16-6 lead, only to lose the game 17-20. The Rams then gained good performances from Anita Green, Michelle Bentley, Lisa Stolk, and Wendy Stubbs in pulling out the second and third games to win the match. The Rams next game is at Enterprise Nov. 2 at 7:30. Their next home game will be against the Milford Tigers Nov. 9 at 7:30 in the PHS gym. |
