V 1 DAVE CASTRO RICH HERNANDEZ Castro Hernandez Players of the Week Dave Castro, junior from LaMirada, Calif, was named the Defensive Player of the Week and the Offensive Player of the Week honors went to Rich Hernandez, Her-nandez, a senior flanker from Placentia, Calif., by the Southern Utah State College Quarterback Club. Selections were based on performances per-formances Friday afternoon in the 40-19 40-19 victory over New Mexico HighJands. Castro, is second in total defense for the SUSC Thunderbirds. He was credited with 16 tackles in the Highlands contest. A linebacker Castro has been a vital cog in the SUSC defensive unit throughout the season. Going into the contest he had 11 solo tackles and 58 assists to his credit and is led only by John Lundstrom in defensive points. Hernandez is a flanker who hauled in two touchdown passes in Friday's contest-one thrown by Tom Kingsford, Jr. and the other by Scott Burns. He leads the team in touchdown passes bringing his total for the season to five. Each of the players will receive a plaque presented by the SUSC Quarterback Quar-terback Club. The presentation will be made at a Quarterback Club no-host breakfast to be held Saturday, Nov. 29 at the Town & Country Restaurant. All members and interested fans are invited to attend, according to Roger Davis, president. Awards for the past two weeks will be presented. Comments on the homecoming game scheduled Saturday against Western New Mexico. The breakfast is slated for 8:30 a.m. |
