Kim Thompson wins Golf title Kim Thompson, fired a 34 on the back nine and came from third place to pick off the championship in the Mullett Mul-lett Jewelry Amateur Open held Friday at the Painted Hills Course in Cedar City. Thompson was three over par at 39 after the first .nine holes then put together the 34, two under par, to come from behind to wind up with a 73 and the title. He won the traveling trophy presented by Wes Mullet for the championship. In second place in the 15-18 division of the tournament was Fred Wright with a 76, a 37-39 effort and Reed McAr-thur McAr-thur cif St. George took third with a 78. Jay Don Blake of St. George was the top scorer in the 12 through 14 bracket with a fine 81 effort. He was followed by David Wright, Cedar City, in at 92 and Rick Rollo, .Cedar City, and Bruce Heppler tied for third with 94's. In a sudden sud-den death playoff Heppler picked up third place honors. Fifth place went to Charlie Sorenson of Cedar City with a 95. Blake in winning his flight posted a 39-42 to win by eleven elev-en strokes. Kevin Robinson of Cedar City walked off with the trophy tro-phy in the 8 through 11 bracket brack-et of the tournament. Competition Compe-tition in this division was lim-ited lim-ited to nine holes and Robinson Robin-son posted a 50 for the top honors. In second place' was Allen Orchard with a 54. Bruce Hiskey and Brad Wright tied for third place honors with 59's and Hiskey won the sudden sud-den death playolff. All were from Cedar City. |
