Some 50 to 60 students have been enrolled in the program at SUSC each year since 1968. Each new group participates in an initial summer program "n the campus which provides them with a beginning curriculum curric-ulum of college courses. Included In-cluded are basics such as English, En-glish, mathematics, social studies, and vocational stud-'es, stud-'es, and electives in the fields of art, foreign languages, nhotography, and industrial arts. Students also take classes class-es in physical education. Those still in high school return to their own schools to finish pre-college studies. Mifflin has served since 1968 as assistant director of the program. The Upward Bound Project was initiated to assist promising pro-mising students to pursue I post high school training who ' . Cedar City. The grouip spends a week each summer at the SUSC Ranch in Cedar Canyon. During the past year they have been responsible for the development of a mile-long nature trail near the ranch. They participate annually in a major service project. Mifflin is a native of Ogden and received his scholastic training at Weber High School and Weber State College, where he receive a Bachelor of Science degree in political science in 1968. He was an honor student in college, receiving re-ceiving straight A grades his last four quarters. At WSC, Mifflin was a member mem-ber of the freshman basketball basket-ball team, and has coached the freshman team at SUSC. While in high school he was a delegate to the University of Utah Model United Nations, and won third place in the Sears Roebuck architectural drawing contest. He is an active member of the LDS Church and has served serv-ed as a superintendent and counselor in the YMMIA. He has also served as a precinct vice chairman for the Democratic Demo-cratic Party in Ogden. Mifflin is married to the former DeLayne Allred, also of Ogden. Mrs. Mifflin is a secretary in the SUSC Pur-I Pur-I chasing Office. |
