Show Federal funds authorized Dixie Project A house-senate conference committee has approved $2WJ,-. 000 in planning lunds far the Dixie Project in southwestern Utah Rep. Sherman P. Lloyd, (R-Utah) reported. "I had hoped that we would get enough money this year to begin construction on the project," Lloyd said. "But the Bureau of Reclamation has not completed revised plans for the new dam site and it was feared that a larger appropriation ap-propriation might be frozen toy the office of mangement and budget since there was no money in the President's budget for the project. "The $200,000 will be used, to complete construction plans and we will fight lor a larger appropriation next year to begin be-gin actual construction," he said. Reip. Lloyd had requested the House Appropriations Committee to write in $500,000 for the project in the fiscal 1973 budget. The Senate later added this amount. "After my tour of the proposed pro-posed new dam site in Washington Wash-ington County with Reclamation Reclama-tion Commissioner Ellis Armstrong Arm-strong last month he advised me that the new plans were incomplete, and that it would be hard for him to justify expenditure ex-penditure of the $500,000 at this time," Lloyd said. So after consulting with local lo-cal officials it was determined that we should shoot for $200,-000 $200,-000 this year with the .hope that we will be first in line next year for new construction starts, he said. 1 |
