The Iron Mission Park, located on North Main Street will hold a grand opening Saturday and residents of the area are invited to attend and view the historical items in the collection. Featured are the Gronway Parry horsedrawn vehicle collection, Alma Matheson gun collection, and other items of historical significance. sig-nificance. ' . ' . ; j Grand Opening for Iron Mission Park refreshments will bg served. In order to support the project pro-ject finacially donations will be asked of those visiting the IMP. Provided Will be momen-tos, momen-tos, souvenoirs and other items to be sold to further support the project financially. The Iron Mission Park is expected to be one of the most historically significant muse-urns muse-urns of the entire southern Utah area. As indicated the Gronway Parry collection stands as one of the most valuable of Its type in existance today. The horsedrawn carrages will be arranged in the building build-ing with plastic replicas of horses, a part of the collection to add realism and authenticity authenti-city to the entire collection. Other valuable collections will make the Park one of the highlights of those seeking seek-ing historical information and data relative to the area and its early development. Cedar City Corporation and other groups interested in the preservation of historical data have assisted in providing for the establishment of the park and the aquisition of Items for inclusion in the museum pices. ; Residents of ' the area are. cordially Invited by the officers of-ficers to visit the Park during the Grand Opening or anytime any-time during the evening. ' Grand opening of the Iron Mission Park on North Main Street will be held Saturday, August 12, it is announced by Joseph C. Felix, President Elect of the organization. t Open house events are scheduled throughout the day beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing con-tinuing until 9 in the evening. Following the grand opening the building and facilities will be open each evening, Monday Mon-day through Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m., Felix Indicated. ' The Grand Opening is the realization of a dream that has been many years In the making. The new structure, j located just . north of i Coal ! Creek on Main Street, will ' serve as a permanent showcase show-case for many of the items of historical significance gathered gather-ed by the Iron Mission Park Commission. . Featured will be the Gronway Gron-way Parry horsedrawn vehicle collection; the Alva Matheson gun and poineer collection; the Oslborne Blacksmith Shop of Beaver will ibehoused in a log caibin as a part of the exhibit, ex-hibit, and in addition thousands thou-sands of items from the pioneer pio-neer heritage of the area, will be included, officers of the Commission Indicated. The IMP is administered by the commission composed of 15 members as a non-profit organization. George L. Strebel is the retiring president and Joseph C. Felix is the president elect of the group. Immediate past president is Haze Hunter. Other members of the commission, represent 1ng various interests of the community and area, include: Tom Challis, interim secretary; secre-tary; Cliff Chatterley, Edwin C. (Ted) Cox, Zella Matheson, Morris Shirts, Ray Juvelin, Leland Fife, Ray Knell, Bob Gardner, Wilford Day and El-wood El-wood Corry. During the open house guided guid-ed tours will be provided and |
