Show Theatrre goers enjoy SUSC production Theatre goers of Southern Utah were privileged to step j into Ancient Greece for a 1 couple of hours last week with SUSC's production of . : "Medea" by Euripides. I r y The ' beautiful spacious i stage setting featured large pillars; and the special lighting light-ing affects added much to the production. The setting was Ancient Greece but the basic motivations motiva-tions (ie. revenge, love and hate) for the gruesome plot are as old and as new as man ; himself. During much of the play the Other characters seemed only to be a show case for the outstanding acting ability of I Miss Hellie Hughes, who ' played the title role of Medea. However, there were a few brilliant moments when all the characters breathed fire ' and life. The final scenes be- fore and in which Jason discovers dis-covers that Medea has murdered mur-dered their sons is one such moment. Any other weaknesses weak-nesses in the acting were forgiven for-given by the audience as they j bcame completely engrossed I in the climax. 1 The tragedy was a large un-. dertaking for a college group, I but the production as a whole was very well-done. Miss Hughes portrayed Medea Me-dea with power and conviction. convic-tion. Her voice, facial expres-! expres-! sions, and body language J were coordinated and well-' well-' motivated. Only a fine actress I could have held an audience's j attention through the long monologues which were given 4 frequently by Medea. ' |
