Show M-Men. Juniors win tourneys; advance to Zone Senior and Junior M-Men basketball teams from the Cedar Seventh Ward will enter en-ter a zone tournament Friday Fri-day and Saturday at Las Vegas, Nev. with the winners in both divisions to advance to the All-Church tournament of the LDS Church. Both teams won regional tournaments staged this past two weeks. The Senior M-Men defeated Minersville Ward 78-76 in the championship game of the Regional playoffs play-offs held two weeks ago in Beaver. In the opening round of play the Seventh Warders defeated Parowan. Team Memhers Members of the team are Wayne Mifflin, Russ Shirts, Ken Bettridge, Ronnie Woolf, Mike Leavitt, Paul Challis, Art Challis, Jim Soria, Dave Forthingham and Hans Chamberlain. Cham-berlain. They are coached by Herb Nakken. In the regional tournament Mifflin was voted the tournament's tourna-ment's most valuable player and Shirts was named to the all-star team. Defeat Eighth Wardi Junior M-Men defeated the Cedar Eighth Ward for the chapionship of the region in a preliminary game Saturday night at the Cedar High School gymnasium. They won by . a single point 49-48 and were led in scoring by Larry Woolf with 22 points. Woolf and Mike Brown both were named to the all tournament team. In the opening open-ing round of the tournament at Parowan they won by forfeit for-feit over Panguitch Stake and then defeated Cedar Fifth Ward 59-29 in the second round of play. In addition to Woolf and Brown, other members of the team include John Vest, Glen Adams, Steve Edwards, Kerry Wheelwright, Tom Higbee, David Judd, Jim Cox, Bob Forthingham, For-thingham, Steve Gunn, and Brent Hyatt. They are coached by Fred Wright. |
