Show Cedar Reelmen down Eagles in slow-up contest 35-23 side for the first fieldgoal of the game and the 3-2 advantage advan-tage at the end of the period. The game play was good for the Eagles tout they failed to capitalize on the control tactics tac-tics by failing to take what a ppeared to be easy shots. The visitors from Fillmore did not attempt a single fieldgoal In the first quarter, had only three attempts at the 'bucket, in the second period arid came The Cedar High School Red-men Red-men basketiball team kept their "cool" Friday evening and wound up with a 35-23 victory over the Eagles of Millard Mil-lard High School. Coach Lewis Monsen apparently appar-ently couldn't control the scoring scor-ing of the Redmen so he sent his team into a ball-control game that resulted in one of the lowest scoring ball games of the season. The Eagles gained control of the opening tip and the game plan was immediately evident. The Millard crew sat outside against the Cedar zone and controlled the ball for the first four minutes and 34 sec-conds sec-conds of play ibefore finally losing possession on a back court violation. Not a single attempt at a basket was made in the first half of the first quarter of play. As a result the first quarter ended with a 3-2 score with the Redmen out in front. The Redmen scored first in the game on a foul shot by Charlie Walker nearly five minutes into the game. The Eagles came back with two foul shots to go out in front and with just 17 seconds left In the period Rodney Cosslett hit from out- up with their first fieldgoal of the game 32 seconds into the third quarter of play. With Millard controlling, the Redmen didn't fair all that well either. They had a field-goal field-goal in the first quarter and connected on only two an the second period one by Doug Watson and one by Rob Jensen Jen-sen to hold a 10 - 6 margin at the .intermission. Finally in the third quarter of play the Redmen moved out with buckets toy Walker, Jen-son, Jen-son, Adams and Cosslett to force the Eagles into a more normal pattern of play which eventually allowed the Red-men Red-men to build up a good margin mar-gin and go on for a 12 point margin of victory. Cosslett led all scorers in the low scoring affair with 12 points. His six fieldgoals matched the entire fieldgoal output of the Eagles. Cosslett was the only man on either team in double figures. By the end of the third per-1 iod the Redmen were out in ! front 24-16 and they increased that margin by four in the final fin-al period. The victory kept the Rod-men Rod-men one-half game in front in the Region standings and sets up a show-down battle against Delta at Delta (this week to determine the probaible league champions.
