Show Martha Avey, SUSG student attends national meeting Martha Avey, from Waynesboro, Waynes-boro, Penn., was among more than 200 education students from 50 states to participate in the semi-annual Representative Represent-ative Assembly of the Student National Education Association, Associa-tion, January 2S-30, in Kansas City, Mo. Miss Avey is a junior at Southern Utah State College majoring in English and Speech. She is currently serving serv-ing as president of the Student Stu-dent Utah Education Association. Associa-tion. While attending the convention, conven-tion, Miss Avey was elected regional coordinating of the Rocky Mountain States Region. Her duties in this capacity include in-clude coordinating the activities activ-ities of the 38 local Student Education Association in the region. The states in this re-! re-! gion include Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Wyoming. Wy-oming. . Highlights of the three-day meeting included action on a proposed dues increase, the election of the association's first president-elect, and an depth exploration of the Student Stu-dent NEA's relationship with the National Education Association As-sociation (NEA). Student NEA, with more than 85,000 members on 1100 college and university campuses, cam-puses, is affiliated with the 1.1 million member NEA. Student Stu-dent NEA members are preparing pre-paring for education professions profes-sions and are Involved on their campusses in programs to reform teacher education, to insure student involvement in the political process, and to increase human relations skills in potential teachers. |
