Show CLAUDE'S fjDJWtWth by Claude Orton It came to me as I was passing pass-ing the new Seminary building build-ing the other night that, although al-though they have been using the facility since the school opening, nothing has been held in the form of an open , : v'. house for it as yet. , ; So I asked Ernest Ahlborn,' instructor, why? And he said they were holding up on such an event until it is paid for, and ready for dedication. My next question, of course, was: How much is still owing on , it? About $3,000 he informed ... ; me. My next question was: Is anything being done toward to-ward paying this oL"? Again his answer was in the negative. nega-tive. 1 " Now, I den't think it is a very good record. The wards involved in the Seminary should get busy, make a concerted con-certed drive to get this money. mon-ey. Then get the building dedicated ded-icated for the purpose for which it has been built. Last week in this column I wrote - about the "big gift" that President Nixon is proposing pro-posing to give to us poverty stricken residents of the cities cit-ies and states. This is proposed propos-ed to help us solve such problems prob-lems as crime, pollution, public pub-lic improvements, etc. He is proposing that the Federal Government give to. us, some $10 billion, which it doesn't have, and don't even know where it is going to come from. He has a name for it: "Deficit Spending" A program this country has been using for so long that we really don't seem to care about it. Add this amount to the already proposed $18 billion which this country is expected ex-pected to go in the red this coming biennium, it should make us shudder. Now if the Federal Government Govern-ment wants to help the cities cit-ies and states, that's us, why don't President Nixon say: "We will cut our income tax levy by 15, and you add it to your tax levy. In this way you can raise the money for your needs without bothering -us in Washington about it. "In this way, you could get the money you need, without it trailing to here and back, and remain solvent." I can see those boys back there doing this, They know . then that it would go to the areas which need it and are willing to pay for it. Rep. Mills chairman of the House Ways and Means committee, gave a very good summary ... of how the Nixon plan would work, who needs the money, and who would get it, in the Wednesday issue of The Tribune. Trib-une. Read it. Times do change. Last week a report was published in a daily paper giving the cost, of bringing a new baby into the world. It said that the price runs as high as $900 for the care of the mother, baby bo-fore bo-fore and after its birth. We don't believe that it runs that high in this area, and probably probab-ly was for an extra luxurious birthday party. Back in 1925 when the Orion's Or-ion's first child was born, we remained at home for the event as was usual at that time. Dr. F. J. Burton was the doctor and his bill was a flat $30.00 for the firstborn ' in the family, $25 after that. ; Adelinda Thornton was the practical nurse on the job and following the birth, she came to your home each day for ten days to care for the mother moth-er and baby. Hor price was $10 for th deal. The doctor two. Incidentally our first one, a boy, was born on the night thnt Gene Tunney took the heavyweight boxing title from Jack Dcmpsey in Philadelphia, hence, the name Eugene. Some of the Red Hill Wranglers Wran-glers attending the Jamboree in Salt Lake City last Saturday, Satur-day, attended an X rated movie mo-vie while there and 1hcy state that their only regret was that they didn't have Claude Orton Or-ton there to go with them.
