Show Conan E. Mathews, BYU art professor exhibits work here Currently on exhibit in the Southern Utah State College Music Center is a one man exhibition ex-hibition of 22 recent paintings by Conan E. Mathews. Mr. Mathews is Porfessor of Art at Brigham Young University. He served as chairman of the BYU Art Department from 1956 to 1939. and was Dean of the College of Fine Arts from 107)9 to 1968. The painter's current exhibit include many paintings of South Utah landscapes, executed exe-cuted in acrylic, watercolor. and mixed media. Mathews weaves landscape elements Into dynamic, rythmic patterns of tapestry, He pronounces a pesonal ordering of the plastic elements of artistic eypression retaining a flat, twj-demen-tional picture plane as opposed oppos-ed to illtisioni'--tlc schemes of atmospheric and linear per-peoMve. per-peoMve. According to Trofessor Thomas A. Leek, SUSC Curator of Art, the one-man exhibit will run through March 1. The Music Center hours are 7 A.M. to 8 P.M. Monday through Friday and 8 A.M. to 1 P.M. Saturday. Many of the paintings are for sale. |
