Show iutttoEis serve dual purpose (or Annual Winter Classic At the southern end of Utah's Wasatch Mountains, shortly before they tumble into in-to Zion National Park and the scenic Markagunt Plateau. Ues Brian Head, Utah's southern south-ern most ski resort and Cedar City, southern Utah's largest ximmunity location of. the Color Country Winter Classic February 20-28. Many Cedar City and area esidents, as well as vacation-ng vacation-ng guests, will recall last year's activities and in partic ular the famous Color Country Classic Buttons. The new 1971 buttons sport a new design of green trees and red arrows focusing attention at-tention on the name, date, and place. The sale of the Winter Classic Buttons will begin in approrimately one week. They will be sold by the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce, the various members of Civic Clubs in Cedar City, and various var-ious businesses. For the price I of $1.00, the purchase of the button entitles the owner to several chances in the drawing draw-ing of prizes donated to the Classic by various businesses and coordinated by the Retail Merchants Association of Cedar Ce-dar Citv. The buttons are numbered anil drawings will take place downtown three times during the week. It is through the sale of buttons but-tons that the majority of the funds for the Classic are obtained ob-tained by the Chamber of Commerce to promote the week's activities. The Iron County Commission also donates don-ates towards the Winter Classic. Contest at College The design of the buttons was decided upon through a contest sponsored by SUSC Social Affairs. The winning design was by Norman Robinson, Rob-inson, SUSC student. A highlight of the Classic will be the parade down Cedar City's main street. Monday, February 22, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Featured in the parade will ho threA hi?h school hands: I Parowan, Cedar and Hurricane with special attraction of the lamettes of Parowan. Leading the parade will be Miss Deborah Deb-orah Dunn, Miss Utah, on a fbat. courtesy of Kiwanis Club of Cedar City. First Security Sec-urity Bank of Utah and the Color Country Winter Classic are cosponsoring Miss Utah's visit t0 Cedar City. Also In the parade will be Miss Mary Lambeth, Miss ron County, sponsored by the Cedar City Jaycees. All candi-lates candi-lates for the SUSC Snow. Queen Pageant will be on various var-ious floats built by their -sponsors. The Pageant will be ! later that evening. Float sponsorship Various businesses from Cedar Ce-dar City and Brian Head will sponsor floats including snow, mobiles and a simulated "mariche band" by Ferdinands First, second, and third place prizes will be given to parade entries by the Retail Merchants Merch-ants Association later at the .. Queen's Pageant. The Rotary" Club of Cedar City is donating the funds for the band participants partic-ipants to be fed at the college cafeteria after the parade. Anyone with inquiries and requests for additional float entries should contact Bob VanOver. Chairman of the parade pa-rade and a member of the Cedar Ce-dar City Jaycees who are sponsoring spon-soring and coordinating the parade. Additional floats are still desired to compliment the parade. Other Cedar City Civic Clubs are assisting in the Classic activities. The Lions Club Is working on transportation for the skating rink facilities at Iron County Recreation Area (Wood's Ranch). The Elks Club will be involved in promotion pro-motion and publicity. |
