Show School board adopts fiscal budget apply for State funds A $2,863,621 budget for the 1970-71 school year was approved ap-proved for the Iron County School District at the meeting of the Board of Education Monday. The budget was approved following a public hearing and presentation by Superintendent Superin-tendent Clair Morris. Included in the budget was $86,100 which represents the fiscal budget of the Southwest Educational Edu-cational Development Center for which Iron County district serves as fiscal agent. Thc-Medra Thc-Medra center serves the entire en-tire southwestern Utah area and is funded through federal grants, and proportionately by the various participating school districts. In addition the board will review insurance bids and take up other business matters of the district. The 1970-71 budget will be based on levy of 41.35 mills, the same that it has been for the past several years. However, How-ever, the assessed valuation of the county has dropped and the funds from this source will not be as high as they have been for the previous year, Morris pointed out. In other action of the board approval was given to apply to the State Department of Education for teacher leadership leader-ship funds, a program approved ap-proved by the 1970 legislature legisla-ture designed to reward teachers for outstanding service ser-vice and for assuming additional addi-tional responsibilities above those normally required of other teachers. Funds Qualified These state funds must go to teachers only and stipends may not be less than eight percent of each panticipants' school year contract salary. The expected state allocation of funds to Iron County e-f.uals e-f.uals $10,933 and will be a-warded a-warded to 16 teachers. Board also gave permission for the signing of necessary application papers to continue contin-ue participation in the surplus sur-plus property utilization program. pro-gram. Authorization was also given for the calling for bids for the supplying of coal and milk for the school year. The district is also accepting applications for a full time custodian at the Cedar City High School. Bids were opened on the sale of a series of items and awards were approved. Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Califodnia was high bidder on two busses at $427.34 and $311. A third tfis went to Kenneth Coburn. Several other items were also bid and awarded. |
