Cedar High School Redmen won the Region Eight crown last week and Friday will host Grantsville in a state Semi-final match. Redmen, fenisville clash in state baseball semi-finals Hobbs hopes that his team can continue their torrid pace, at the plate. In other semi-final action in the state Uintah, winner of Region Six and the defending defend-ing State Champions will host the Region Seven winner. Winners of the Semi-finals will then clash next week for the state title with the site to be detrmined following he semi-final round of action. Friday's game will be handled hand-led under the direction of the tah High School Activities Association. Cedar High School Redmen, 1971 Region Eight champions will host Grantsville in a single sin-gle game here Friday afternoon after-noon in a state semi-finale contest in the Class B playoffs. play-offs. Gametime has been set for the contest at 1 p.m. on the Cedar City diamond. Grantsville took the Region Five championship this year and scouting reports indicate that the visitors will come in with a well balanced team with good pitching, good field ing and good hitting, they w ill be matched against again-st the Redmen who took the Region Eight title in twr straight victories, over Delta Friday, 10-0 and 8-2. It is anticipated that Sean Noonan will be on the mound for the single game encounter with Tim Helm receiving. Other top pitcher of the year has been Nolan Roberts, but Coach Dick Hobbs feels that his Redmen are stronger defensively de-fensively with that particular particu-lar starting battery. One of the top hitters for the Redmen will be Mike Rice who has got the Redmen off and running in the first inning inn-ing cf play in the Region playoffs with a home run. The first game against the Rabbits was called after five innings owing to the 10 run idvantagp and the high score w-as helped yu0tfr home runs, three of them in the bottom bot-tom of the fifth. Alan Averett, Lynn Hatch and Noonah hit round trippers in the inning. Noonan picked up the mound victory allowing only two-hits on his way to the shutout. In the second game it was Tim Helms in the second inning inn-ing who belted a three run homer to put the Redmen on top 8 0, and Coach Hobbs cleared his bench for the remainder re-mainder of the game. Starting pitcher was Roberts, but he was lifted after three to give some experience to sophomore hurler Ron Adams. Friday's contest will be one of the Redmen's bats against again-st the visitors and Coach |
