Show Public hearing slated on Vocational Technical education J. Clair Morris, superintendent superintend-ent of the Iron County School District and Dixie Leavitt, Utah State Senator from Cedar City, will be the principal speakers at a public hearing to be held here Tuesday, May 18, concerning vocational-technical vocational-technical education. The meeting is slated to be held at the Recital Hall in the Music Building on the campus of Southern Utah State College Col-lege at 7;30 p. m. Meeting, as indicated, is op- en to the public and all interested in-terested are invited to attend. The hearing is one three set in the state at which a brief explanation of what is happening hap-pening in the vocational-technical aea be explained. Imediately following the introduction in-troduction the meeting will be opened up to the public to express viewpoints, concern? and recommendations in this vital area of education, ac cording to Richard Prows, chairman of the Utah State Advisory Council for Vocation al Technical Education sponsors of the meetings. The publication produce by the council, entitled 'Bu What About Utah's 80 Per cent" points out that SO per cent or more of all jobs in the 'future will require less thar I four years of college. Furthe the publication indicates that most of these jobs will be in the technical-vocational are and will require this type of education. The council hopes, through the public hearings, to strong ly urge the development of educational programs in the vocational-technical fields. i w, BERNARD BROCKBANK Drockbank will deliver address at SUSC . Speaker for Baccalaureate j Services at Southern Utah State College June 4 will be Elder Bernard P. Brockbank, Assistant to the Council oi Twelve, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, it was announced by Dr. Royden C. Braithwaite, SUSC president. presi-dent. Elder Brockbank has served in his present position since October, 1962. Prior to hi.s cal' as Assistant to the Twelve Apostles he served as presi dent of the Scottish Mission and North Eritish and Sco' tish-Irish Missions of the LDS Church. Elder Brockbank's principal assignment at the present time Is that of supervisor of the South American Missions, under tha direction of L'lde Gordon B. Hinckley of the Council of Twelve. He has served as a bishop, stake high councilman, and stake president and was man aging director of the Mormot Pavilions at the New York World's Fair and the Hem is Fair in San Antonio, Texas. A Salt Lake building contractor, con-tractor, Elder Brockbank if active in building associations as well as in civic affairs having been a member of the Salt Lake Real Estate Board, Utah Home Builders Association, Associa-tion, Holladay Lions Club and Sons of Utah Pioneers He is also past president of the Granite School Distric Board of Education. A native of Holladay, Utah he attended Utah State Agricultural Agri-cultural College, now Uta-State Uta-State University, and studied law at ' George Washingto' University. During hi.s youth he served as a missionary in Great Britian for two years. |
