Show Committees named to develop master plan for Cedar City A meeting of the five com-nitto.-M approved by the City C.nncil tor tho City Compre-In Compre-In !su'o Planning lor Capital Improvement will be held this evening, Thursday, at 7:30 p.m. in the City and County Building, it is announced an-nounced by Mayor Loren Whetten. At the regular city council meeting held last Thursday, five committees were organized organ-ized and approved by the council to serve on the planning plan-ning program. At this evening's meeting, which is open t0 the public, Dale Despain, community planner will be on hand tc outline and detail the project with charges to the various committees. Each of the five committees are headed by a representative representa-tive from the city council. Assignments As-signments were made as follows: fol-lows: Land Use, Haze Hunter; Circulation, Cir-culation, Kerry Jones; Conservation Con-servation and Urban Renewal, Louis Webster; Housing. Robert Ro-bert C .Hansen and Public facilities, R. T. Stucki. Approximately 15 residents of the community have been appointed to serve on each of the committees, Mayor Whetten .indicated. The Council at Thursday's meeting was informed by the State Highway Department. that the on and off ramps on Interstate Highway 15 at the South Cedar City Interchange would be constructed this summer. Plans call, it was noted, for the addition of a Iseperate cattle pass to ac-I ac-I comodate the movement of , livestock to and from summer i grazing ranges. In other action the council 1 was asked to select a site at Cedar City Cemetery for the erection of a Statue to be a replica of the "Unknown Soldier." Charles Betts, commander com-mander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars indicated that the veterans organizations of the community would erect the statue if the city would provide the site. Cedar City Council will select a site in the new- portion of the ceme-ery, ceme-ery, the Mayor indicated. Merrill (Bud) Kunz, director direc-tor of plant operation at Southern Utah State College, met with the council to inform in-form the city of plans for the Installation of curb and gutter gut-ter on the south side of Center Cent-er Street from between 300 and 400 West t0 the end of college property near the Interstate In-terstate 15 overpass which is adjacent to the Thunderbird stadium. SUSC has also agreed to donate property that would give additional width to the street in connection with the curb and gutter installation. The city agreed to cooperate In every way with the college in the installation, the Mayor said. . First reading of the budget for the 1971-72 fiscal year was held at the council meeting. meet-ing. Council also heard a delegation dele-gation from the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce asking for an endorsement of a petition peti-tion that would cU for a re. ferendum vote on the location loca-tion of the Iron County Court House. Mayor Whetten indicated that since it appears that a new courthouse will be built, the council felt that residents should have the opportunity to vote on its location. |
