A capella choir to appear her Friday, February 26 The outstanding A capella choir from the University of Utah will be held in concert in Parowan on Thursday, Feb. 20, according to a news release re-lease coming to us from the Parowan High School The choir will appear in the high school auditorium at 11 a. m. t Mat day and there will be no charge for admission. The choir under the direction direc-tion of Dr. Newell B. Weight, is making a tour of Southern Utah during that week. Coming Com-ing out of a long tradition of excellent choral singing at the University, the a capella choir is highly regarded and is much sought after in the Salt Lake area Dr. Weight, a former music instructor at Parowan High School, has been director of the choir for nine years and has a long and successful career ca-reer in choral direction prior to that time. Composed of 70 voices, the choir's program includes a variety of chorul music from Renaissance to contemporary as well as special numbers to add variety and appear to all listeners. Emphasis is placed on tonal beauty and blend, rhythmic precision and stresses stres-ses emotional expression. The appearance of the a capella choir in Parowan promises to be one of the musical mu-sical highlight of the season, and the High School urges all townspeople to join in attending at-tending this program. |
