Show PHS wresting squad prepares for Region Eight meet The Parowan High School wrestling team traveled to Kanab Ka-nab on Thursday afternoon of last week to meet the Cowboy Cow-boy mat squad in its final outing prior to the Region Eight meet this week end. And the rams of Coach Lowell Low-ell Caldwell, had no trouble in the meet, winning 11 of the 12 matches to roll up a 51 to 3 win over the home squad. This week end, Friday and Saturday, the regional meet will get under way with the first session at 1 p. m. and the second ae 7 p. m. in the Delta High School gym. The meet will continue on through Saturday to deter-the deter-the Region Eight entries in the State Class A - B meet, to be held in Heber City with Wasatch High as host school. First and second place winners win-ners in the region meet qualify quali-fy for state competition. Caldwell states that eight of the high schools in Region Eight will be represented at the Delta meet with only Dixie High, which dropped out of the wrestling sport this year, and Enterprise High, which hasn't so far participated partici-pated in it. Delta will be the overwhelming overwhelm-ing favorite to take the region re-gion meet. Although forced to take second behind Uintah for the past two years, the Rabbits, haven't been touched in local competition this year. Behind Delta, it could be either eith-er of four other teams, Parowan, Paro-wan, Hurricane, Millard or Cedar City, with Beaver coming com-ing on stronger and Milford just getting started this year. In the 12 weight divisions from 100 pounds up through 185 to heavyweight, Parowan High will be represented by Dale Northington, Gary Jones, Jeff Taylor, Don Northington, Tom Gurr, Randy Day, Ronald Johnson, Ralph Lister, Rick Trimmer, Tom Adams, Chuck Harris and Joe Williamson. Of this squad Caldwell is hopeful that at least four will qualify quali-fy for the state meet, depending depend-ing on the drawing for opponents. |
