Show Work gets under way on Center St. curb - gutter project Work got under way last week on a project to install curb and gutter on Center Street, east to 300 East Street, or the turn on the Parowan Canyon highway. The first sections of the project were installed on the south side of the street from Main to 100 East, with the city and property prop-erty owners cooperating in the job, according to Mayor Kendall Ken-dall Gurr. The contracting firm of Blackburn and Gower are doing do-ing the work, although individual indi-vidual property owners may get together and do their own if they choose, at a reduced cost. About one-third of the project should be completed by the end of this week if all goes well. There are a few water and sewer connections to be made along the street prior to the intallation of the curb and gutter, or the job may be held up. Also the power poles along the north side of the street will have to be moved prior to the work on the north side of the project between 100 East and the edge of the city-. Some trees will also have to be removed we understand. When the job is complete, the state highway depart-men depart-men has pledged to oil surface sur-face the street, from curb to curb, as it is a part of Utah Highway 143 leading up the Parowan Canyon. In the meantime mean-time the Rowan Williams Construction Co. who has the bid to lay a 24-foot oiled highway high-way from the edge of this city to the head of Main Canyon Can-yon on U-143, is installing a gravel crusher in the mouth ,of Dry Canyon, as an initial 4;ut of getting that project under wdy. - |
