Show City Council slate j hearing on budget for fiscal 72 I A public hearing will be I held in connection with the I Cedar City Council meeting this evening to consider the 1971-72 fiscal budget for Cedar Ce-dar City. The hearing is set for 9:00 p.m. and all residents interested inter-ested in the proposed expenditure expend-iture of funds for the coming fiscal year are invited to attend. at-tend. The proposed budget for the year has been set at $755,779 according to Arnold Anderson, Ander-son, city manager. The figure includes $534,972 for the general gen-eral operating budget, $153,- I 250 for the water department, j which is a self-sufficient unit I of city government and an additional $67,557.50 for bond I redemption. I A portion of the revenue I from the water department will be used to meet bonded indebtedness of that department depart-ment in the redemption fund, Anderson explained. Budget has been drawn up on the same mill levy as for the past year, which is 26.8 mills. This mill levy is expected expect-ed to bring revenue in the amount of $164,407 during the year from property taxes, Anderson An-derson stated. Sales tax anticipation for the year has been set at $120,-000. $120,-000. Other revenue sources include in-clude various licenses, fees and fines. Anderson also indicated that the City Council would also consider a proposal to attempt to operate the city without the need of tax anticipation antic-ipation notes. For the past several years, he indicated, the city has had to gain necessary operating capitol from tax anticipation notes which in essence cost the city valuable tax dollars in interest. He pointed out that the anticipation an-ticipation funds are collected throughout the entire year and that immediate income is not always available to keep the city operating in the early part of the fiscal year. No major changes are noted in the budget. Only $14,000 has been collected for capital improvement and in most cases the budget has been designed de-signed to meet only minimum operating costs w ith very little changes from the past year's operation. It was noted, however, by the city manager that the city street department is operating at virtually the same capacity in number of men employed as it was ten years ago, dis-t.e dis-t.e the growth of the city and the increased demands on the department. |
