Show Future Building Fund Ups County School Budget $450,000; Brings Total to Million and a Half The Iron County Poard of Education Friday adopted adopt-ed a budget of expenditures for the 1957-58 school year totaling $1,403,328, which is $5G9,212.61 higher than the budget for the current year. However, in spite of the apparent ap-parent large increase, there will be very little difference in the amount spent for operation of the county school system, and this in spite of increased costs in a number of items of school expenses. This comes from the fact that the budget includes a total of $450,000 of accumulated funds for future building purposes. This accumulation will be used to defray the cost of a new elementary school in Cedar City to be located locat-ed in the southwestern portion of the city, and for the purchase pur-chase of sites for other buildings to be erected In the next few years. Capital Outlay The new budget provides a total of $519,000.00 for capital outlay, which In addition to the buildings and sites mentioned, includes such Items as new library li-brary books, furniture and equipment. equip-ment. The debt service budget Is set at $37,775.00, which includes re-demptlon re-demptlon of bonds, interest on bonds and other minor debt service ser-vice Items. The bond payment this year, and one more similar payment In the 1958-59 fiscal year will complete all bond payments pay-ments and leave the district debt free. As usual cost of instruction is the major Item In the budget with a total of $G51,9O2.0O provided pro-vided for this purpose. This is considerably higher than the cur-rent cur-rent year Instruction cost, which was $533,RS6. The Increase re-suits re-suits mostly from increases In teachers salaries approved recently, re-cently, and from the fact that at least seven new teachers will be needed this year to handle the Increased enrollment. Another Anoth-er small Increase in this was made, when the board approved a one-fourth mill levy for the purpose of providing television for the county, which Increased "Instruction costs" by $10,602. Of course, It has not yet been determined de-termined whether or not this fund will be spent for that purpose. pur-pose. Instruction Budget The Instruction budget in. eludes $81,000 for supervision and principals, $494,000 for teachers teach-ers salaries, $7 000 for clerical service, $2,300 for travel, $13500 for books and magazines, $13,5C0 for teaching and instructional supplies, and $40,602 for television televis-ion and other instructional costs. Increases in supplies, etc., have resulted from the Increased cost of such items over that of last rr. r Administration expenses have been set at $11,400, as compared to $30,279 last year. Support of the entire community Is urged. Fund Dance The first of these events will be a big dance Friday evening at the tennis courts at the City Park. The San Mitchell orchestra orches-tra will furnish music for the occasion without charge to the band. In addition local merchants mer-chants have contributed door prizes to be given away. Admission Admis-sion will be 50 cents per person or three for $1.00. It is hoped that a large crowd will be present pres-ent and those who can't attend will buy tickets anyway. About $500 is needed and It is the hope that enough people will buy tic kets to raise this amount. On Sunday evening the Cedar Lions Club will sponsor an appearance ap-pearance of the band as a means of raising funds. The band will appear In uniform at the Pony League ball park and will give a preview of what they plan to do in the convention parade. This event will start promptly at 8 p. m., and it is hoped that a large crowd will be on hand to see the excellent organization go through Its maneuvers. |
