Show FCC Puts Hands Down Tab on . TV Application A reply to Mayor Arnold Anderson An-derson on a request for information informa-tion on the possibility of obtain, lng a license for "booster" tele-vision tele-vision service in Cedar City seems to indicate that their is very little chance of obtaining such a license. ' Mayor Anderson had inquired as to the possibilities of obtaining obtain-ing such a license In view of the recent court decision in a cease and desist order in a similar situation to that at Cedar City, which seemed to Indicate that where such "boosting" did not Interfere with other stations permission per-mission for limited operation at least could be permitted. The reply to Mayor Anderson's request re-quest came from P.osel H. Hyde, commissioner, Federal Communications Communi-cations Commission. Mr. Hyde's letter pointed out the reason for not permitting booster type operation and expressed ex-pressed the view that translator service, which is legal, would not be as expensive as local groups have indicated. However, Mr. Hyde seems not to realize that it would require three translators trans-lators for each channel brought into Cedar City, which would in crease the cost tremendously. There seems to be very little chance of a booster license being be-ing granted, but Mayor Anderson Ander-son states that the city administration adminis-tration will continue its studies of ways and means of providing television for Cedar City in the hopes of solving the problem as soon as possible. He states that the city will cooperate fully with Iron County and the Iron County Coun-ty School District, as well as with similar subdivisions of Beaver Bea-ver County, in providing service for the entire area at the lowest possible cost to the taxpayer. |
