Show Dawn to Midnight Fourth Activities Scheduled Under Sponsorship oi Ellis A full program of events for the celebration of Independence Day In Cedar City has been outlined out-lined by a committee headed by Frank Milne and Sam Gentry. Features of the day's events will be a children's parade, patriotic meeting, fireworks, a boxing program, pro-gram, amateur rodeo, baseball games, games and contests for children, square and ballroom dancing. The amateur rodeo, to be sponsored by the Iron Rangers in cooperation with the Elks Lodge will be held Wednesday evening, July 3. Activities for Independence Day will begin at 6 a. m. with gun salutes, with the remainder of the day's events beginning at 9 a. m. when the annual children's chil-dren's parade sponsored by the Lady Lions, will be held. Immediately Im-mediately following the parade sports for the younger children will get under way at the city park. Patriotic Program At 10 a. m. the American Legion Le-gion and BPOE will present a patriotic meeting at the city park. At noon games and contests for the older children will get underway. The afternoon will feature baseball games, with the American Legion team meeting an outside team at 3 p. m. and a regular Little League game to be played at 5:30. A boxing program will be staged stag-ed at the College of Southern Utah fieldhouse at 7 p. m., and the Cedar City Fire Department will stage a fireworks display on the hillside east of town at 9 p. m. Remainder of the evening will be devoted to dancing, with square dancing to be held at the city park and ballroom dancing at the college fieldhouse. Assisting Mr. Milne and Mr .Gentry in the various activities will be the following committeemen: committee-men: secretary and treasurer, Rex Harris; sports and races, Cleo Petty and Ray Lee; parade and amateur rodeo, Milt Jolley and J. V. Adams; booths and concessions, Dee Nelson; food, Don Nelson; balloons, Blaine Wood and Wayne Jackson; fights, Leonard Smith; public address ad-dress systems. Glen Yergensen; advertising, Durrel Corry; patriotic patri-otic program, Wayne Jackson and Roy Urle; fireworks, Ferrell Peterson and Ralph Hanzon; Square dance, Vurge Smith and Shep Syrett Each sponsoring organization has, of course, named committees commit-tees to handle the various events, such as the parade, boxing, box-ing, rodeo, and fireworks. |
