Show State Road Contract Calls for 6-mile Southern Utah Stretch The Utah State Road Commission Commis-sion has called for bids on a little lit-tle over six miles of highway construction 1 n Washington county, which marks an important import-ant step In development of the Interstate highway hrough Utah. The section of highway to be! constructed on the proposed con-1 tract will be that section of Inter-1 state Highway 15 from St George ! southwest along the Virgin River, thus definitely establishing the route of the highway from St. j George to the state line. An unusual aspect of the proposed pro-posed contract Is that It Is for a gravel surfaced road, and for a section that cannot be put to use until a new section of highway high-way Is constructed In Arizona. The 6.195 miles of highway will start about one mile south of St. George and follow the river gorge j to the Arizona-Utah state line. In addition to the gravel surfaced sur-faced highway, the contract calls for a number of structures, bridges, etc., over the Virgin River, Riv-er, including a concrete rigid frame structure 5A.17 ft, a three span structure 172.13, and four-span four-span continuous steel structure, 404.62 feet, and a two-span structure struc-ture 86.16 feet The principal Items o' work are approximately 66,000 tons of gravel, 772,000 cubic yards of roadway excavation, 3269 cubic yards of concrete, and 523.154 pounds of reinforcing steel. The project Is to be completed In 250 working days. Bids on the project will be opened by the State Road Com-I Com-I mission on Oct 11. |
