Show Social Security Provides Family Protection By Old-Age. Survivors. Disability Insurance The term "social security" means different things to different differ-ent people. Whatever it means to the users of the erm, the Social Security Adm.mstratlon wants everyone to know what it represents in family protection provided through its old-age, survivors, sur-vivors, and disability insurance system. Most people know that social security insurance payments go to retired workers and to their families. Fewer are aware of the benefits for families of workers who die. Still fewer have heard of disability insurance for eligible eligi-ble severely disabled workers and their dependents. This three-way family protection protec-tion is worked for and paid for by employees, their employers and the self employed; yet there are many among those who work and pay social security who do not realize the full extent of the financial protection they are providing pro-viding for themselves and their families. The Social Security Administration Adminis-tration urges you to write or visit your nearest social security office for benefit information whenever you or someone in your ! family retires or becomes severely severe-ly disabled.
