Show First Security Foundation Awards $500 in Scholarships and Grants to College of Southern Utah The College of Southern Utah was the recipient this week of scholarships and grants totaling $500, awarded by the First Security Se-curity Foundation. The award was part of the $16,-SJ0 $16,-SJ0 distributed by the Foundation to sixteen Utah and Idaho colleges col-leges and universities as well as to 411 and Future Farmer clubs in the Intermountain region, according ac-cording to Francis W. Betenson, manager of the Cedar City office of the First Security Bank of Utah. Grants to College of Southern Utah included a $200 scholarship in business, a $200 scholarship in agriculture, and $100 in library grants. Betenson made the presentation presenta-tion to Dr. Royden C. Braithwaite, director of CSU and Dr. Kent Myers, chairman of the scholarship scholar-ship committee. The 1965 gifts of the Foundation Founda-tion will bring to $164,300 the total to-tal of scholarships and grants which has been distributed since its founding 12 years ago, in December De-cember of 1952. George S. Ecclcs, president (' First Security Coiporation, is president pre-sident of the foundation. Schools in addition to CSU receiving re-ceiving the 1905 foundation contributions con-tributions include: University of Utah, Brigham Young University, Utah State University, Weber Slate College, Westminster College, Col-lege, Snow College, Carbon College, Col-lege, University of Idaho, Idaho State University, Boise Junior College, Northwest Nazarene College Col-lege and Icwis-Clark Normal College. In addition, 411 an l Future Farmers of America chapters in the area will receive $3,000 and the Univesity of Utah Medical Center Fund received $2,000. Scholarships and grants will be awarded in the spring. Winner.-, are chosen by the school scholarship scholar-ship committee, together with the i head of the department or school of business and a representative of the foundation. The foundation's contributions to 4-H and FFA activities will be , in the form of both Individual and unit awards. |
