Show Little League All-Stars Head for Tourney Fourteen 12-year , old boys, with with one exception, a manager, man-ager, coach and a host of followers follow-ers embarked for Reno. New. and the first of the national Little League tournaments. The Cedar City all-star Little Leaguers and their managing personnel will begin participating participat-ing in tournament play at Reno, today, Thursday, in competition with seven other teams, all from Nevada. Because of the development of a program similar but not na-1 tlonally recognized called the Western Baseball for Boys that was adopted In northern Utah and sponsored by the Salt Lake -Tribune, no other Little League teams in the state of Utah were eligible for participation in Little Lit-tle League tournament play. As a result the first tournamen' competlon for Cedar City, by rie. j cesslty, had to be with Nevada: teams. j Little League, it was pointed out, is the only organization lorj boys through 12 years of ape, that is recognized throughout the country. Little League is the host, also for the "Little League World Series," and only Little League franchlsed teams are ell-! gible for participating in that tournament. On Loss Tourney Also a single loss will drop any Little League team from competition at a higher level. Wlnnef of the Reno tournament, which Is equivalent to the tournament tour-nament In Cedar City last year, wfll advance , to the sectional tournament to be held at Sacramento, Sacra-mento, Calif, with the division tournament to be held at Santa Monica, Calif., again this year. Followers of the Little League program will recall that the Little Lit-tle League all-stars of 1955 advanced ad-vanced to the championship round of the division tournament, at Santa Monica last year. San Dlego beat the local team out for the right to represent the western United States and Canada Can-ada at the Little League World Series at Willlamsport, Pa. Managing the Little League all-stars Is Dee Cowan, regular manager of the Lions Tamers In the local league. Coach is Ray Lee, manager of the Elks Rulers tn the league. i Jerry Stokes Is the only 11 year old boy on the 14-man squad. All others are 12 years old. The remaining 13 men are as follows: fol-lows: Dick Bills, Steve Cahoon, Brent Cripps, Ronald Endsley, Bobby Hall, David Hlgbee. Robert Lee.
