Show Winners Named In Annual 4-H Competition The Iron County 4 II Club Camp held Thursday. Friday and Saturday at the Duck Creek camp grounds turned out to be most successful with 387 III Club members and leaders registering reg-istering for the event. Elected mayor of this year's encampment was Leon Maxwell of Cedar Valley. Scribe was Kenneth Ken-neth Topham of Paragonah. Although rains hampered the lower valley during the time the encampment was in session only on-ly slight rains occurred at the Duck Creek site. A 15-minute rain came in the evening Thursday Thurs-day followed by a longer rain Friday noon. Saturday the camp had been broken up before more rain came. Chief Awards Top award of the encampment to an Individual 4-H Club member mem-ber is the selection of the outstanding, out-standing, all-around 4-H boy and glrL Recipients of the outstanding outstand-ing boy award this year went to Roddy Cox. Hamilton's Fort, and the outstanding girl award went to Mary Ann Hunt of BeryL Club competition awards wer as follows: SKIT CONTEST. First place, "Busy Stitchers." Cedar City; second, sec-ond, "Unplckers," Parowan, and third, "County Kernels and Red Creek Livestock" boys' club of Paragonah. GET ACQUAINTED GAME, Top girl was Teas Robb of Paragonah and Mike Williamson, also of Paragonah, was top boy. CAMP IDENTIFICATION, First. "Work and Play" club, Cedar City; second "Crafty Cookers." Cedar City, and third. "Happy Patchers," Beryl and Modena. ; FOREST MANNERS AND SANITATION. SAN-ITATION. First, "Seven Clovers," Cedar City; second, " Eucky Clovers," Hamilton's Fort, and third. "Snip and Tuck,H Para-gonah. Para-gonah. SCAVANGER HUNT. For this the 4-Hers divided Into groups and did not participate on a club basis. Winner of the hunt was a group led by Johnny McCarry of Beryl. Other Winners LOG SAWING CONTEST men leaders, won by a team of Wallace Wal-lace SJoblom, county agent, of Cedar City, and Bill Boardman, Paraamnah Wmuri'i Uail Edna Thoriey, Modena and Edith Hunt of BeryL Older boys, won by Garth Jones and Valdene Williams Wil-liams of Enoch; Older girls, Colleen Col-leen Cox and Jolene Vanden-berghe, Vanden-berghe, of Hamilton's Fort. For younger boys, Jimmy Cox and Bill Vandenberghe, Hamilton's Fort, and another team from Hamilton's Fort won the young girls contest The team consisted of Lucille Hunter and Jeannle Vandenberghe. Camp leaders were Mr. SJoblom SJo-blom and Emma Nlelson of the extension office and Stephen L. Brower, former Iron County agricultural ag-ricultural agent, now serving as a specialist in the extension work at the Utah State Agricultural Agricul-tural College at Logan. |
