Show Reparation Services Offered Cedar Flood Victims As the result of the declaration of Cedar City as a disaster area as a result of floods of the past week, two important measures 'have been taken to aid those stricken with flood waters. First service to be offered has come from the American tted Cross with applications already being received by Keith Walker, Red Cross field representative, who arrived In Cedar City Friday morning, following the Initial flood Into the west portion of, the city. Second agency to come to the assistance of residents Is the Small Business Administration with offices In Denver. As a result re-sult of the disaster classification this organization is backing loans for repair purposes through First Security Bank, Cedar City Branch, at the low Interest rate of three per cent. Damage Survey Made A survey committee appointed by the city at the request of the Red Cross was made early this week and damage to the community commu-nity as a result of the floods was set at $100,000. This Is visible visi-ble damage and does not include possible damages that might oc-cur oc-cur from sinking and other damage dam-age that might arise. Of the $100,000 damage estimate esti-mate $80,000 was for streets and ewer damage with $20,000 estimated esti-mated for personal property dam-age. dam-age. The survey committee was composed of C B. Cooley, head of the department of industrial arts at College of .Southern Utah; Frank L .Cooley, local contractor, and 'Arthur Jones, construction supply businessman. Claim Procedure Mr. Walker of the Red Cross has, through most of the week, been accepting claims from those who received damage or who lost personal property in the flood. He pointed out, however, that the Red Cross in its efforts to help "repairs and replacement" rules that the amount of assistance given on claims filed, is .based on a policy of "need and not loss." Those desiring to file for assistance as-sistance from the Red Cross have to contact Mr. Walker who has set up a temporary office in the city and county building. A termination date has of necessity ne-cessity been imposed, and flood victims are advised by Mr. Walk-er Walk-er that they have until Wednesday, Wednes-day, Aug. 8 to file for assistance. Those requiring aid in repairing repair-ing damages should seek such aid immediately. The First Security Bank received re-ceived application forms and Information In-formation from the Small Business Busi-ness Administration on low Interest In-terest loans for the purpose of repairs to damaged homes. . Loans will be made through this organization on a pay-back basis but at the exceptionally low interest rate of three per cent.
