Show CSU Broncos Lose To Antelope Valley in Close Game The College of Southern Utah football team dropped a tough game Saturday to Antelope Valley Val-ley junior college at Lancaster, Calif, in spite of the fact that Coach Dave Gates' Broncos played play-ed perhaps their best game of the season. The Antelope team, undefeated undefeat-ed this season and leading the tough California league, was lucky to come out victorious in this game according to the coach of the big, fast California squad. Antelope Valley, players and spectators alike, classed the Broncos Bron-cos as the best team to play on the Lancaster field this season. The smaller Bronco line out-charged out-charged the California line throughout the game and the backfield men turned in excellent excel-lent performances s the Broncos outplayed and ouigained the Cal-ifornians, Cal-ifornians, but tough breaks in the form cf penalties and one costly cost-ly fumble lobbed the Broncos of victory, the CSU squad going down to a 13 to 7 ioss. Taking the opening kiekoff the Rroncos marched tj the Antelope Valley three-yard line, where with a first and three to go it looked like a certain score. Instead In-stead of getting the three yards, however, the Broncos got three successive penalties for 35 yards, which stopped the drive and cost them a chance to score. Throughout the remainder of the first half the two teams went scoreless, but midway in the third period the Broncos got another an-other drive going and broke Keith Tattersal loose for a long run and the first score of the (Continued on Page 11) i BRONCOS (Continued from Page Eight) game. Arlyn Devereaux kicked the extra point to ,ive the Broncos Bron-cos a 7 to 0 lead. Later in the third period, however, how-ever, the California team pushed over a score on a long pass. Regaining Re-gaining possession when the Broncos fumbled the kickoff, the Californians pushed over another score and added the extra point to take a, 13 to 7 lea-, which'they held to the end of fhe game. In the fourth period the Broncos Bron-cos struck again, Don Keeney passing to Devereaux who crossed cross-ed the goal line, but a penalty nullified the touchdown and cost the Broncos a chance of tying the game, or winning it by a one point margin. All of the Broncos saw action in the game except Ron Hone and played excellent ball. Hone, speedy halfback, was unable to play because of an injured ankle an-kle received in practice earlier in the week. |
