Show Reseeding Areas Mount on National Forests Newly grassed rangelands of the Intermountain National Forests For-ests now total 371,894 acres reported re-ported I. M. Varner, regional chief of range and wildlife management, man-agement, Saturday. Stressing that no reseeding job can be successful without good follow-up management, Mr. Varner Var-ner said that planting the grass is only the first step. "In most cases," the report said, "water hauling, intensive herding and fencing are necessary to get proper pro-per use of a maximum amount of the new grass once it is established." estab-lished." To demonstrate the high emphasis em-phasis placed by the Forest Service Ser-vice on the national forest range restoration program in the Intermountain Inter-mountain Region the figures show that over four-fifths of all the Forest Service reseeding has been done here, Mr. Varner said. The intermountain region includes in-cludes the national forests of Utah, Nevada, southern Idaho, and western Wyoming. Reseeding projects of 1953 totalled 23,980 acres on the 19 national forests of the region. |
