Show Cedar, Parks and Hyland Drive-in ticket price adjustments due to excise tax drop OPEN LETTER: We, as owners of your Cedar City theatres, were very pleased when the President signed the Excise Tax Reduction Reduc-tion bill on theatre tickets, and we are anxious to pass as much of this reduction to our patrons as we feel can be done. It must be remembered by our patrons that only a portion of this tax reduction winds up as a net saving to us. At least 90 of our films are sold to us on a percentage percent-age basis, figured on our net gross after tax; therefore, the film companies receive the same percentage of the tax saving as they charge us for the film. The price adjustments we are making we feel are the best we can do considering the thousands of dollars we have recently spent for Third Dimension Pictures, Wide Screen, Cinemascope, and Stereophonic Sound. At our Cedar indoor and our Hyland Drive-in theatres our prices have been the same 60c for adults, 45c for students and 10c for children under 12 years of age. Our new prices, effective Thursday, April 8 will be 50c for adults, 40c for students and 15c for children. These prices will prevail at both the Cedar and Hyland Drive-in theatres thea-tres with the following exception. All children who occupy seats at our indoor theatres will be expected to purchase a ticket while at our Hyland Drive-in any child under six years of age will be admited free. Under the previous tax law any admission ticket under un-der 10c wasn't taxed; therefore, in the past, we haven't had to pay tax on our children's tickets and for this reason rea-son it was left at 10c. Under the new law, we can raise the price to 15c without paying any tax and this we are doing to keep in line with other theatres throughout the I state. We know of no theatre that charges less than 15c 'for children, and of many that charge more than our 15c price. This 15c price on children's tickets will apply to our Saturday matinees starting next Saturday. We plan on opening our Hyland Drive-in Sunday, May 9 at which time the Parks Theatre will close, and will remain re-main closed throughout the drive-in season. As this is only a few weeks, we are leaving our Parks prices the same as in the past, 50c for adults, 35c for students, and 10c for children. Our price adjustments will be made for the fall opening and will be announced at that time. It will take a few weeks for us to receive our new tickets; tic-kets; therefore, our old tickets will have to be used even though they will not show the price on the ticket that is charged at the window. We, as owners and operators of your Cedar City theatres, thea-tres, sincerely hope that you, our patrons, .will honestly feel that we are making the best price adjustments possible possi-ble under the existing circumstances and in fairness to all age groups concerned. Sincerely, THE YERGENSEN BROS. |
