Show Reseeding Projects Completed on ; Dixie Forest Ranges j Range reseeding projects carried car-ried out during the 1951 field season on Dixie National Forest lands have been brought to a close with the last storm, ac-! cording to Leland Heywood, Assistant As-sistant Forest Supervisor. Two D-7 tractors, pulling Dixie harrows, have continued in operation oper-ation on the Clark Mountain area near Panguiteh, until winter win-ter weather made it impossible to continue. A total of 1770 acres of sagebrush land was reseeded in that area since the job began about the first of August. The Nazer Draw project near Boulder, with 1100 acres of land, six miles of fence, and six miles of waterspreading ditches, was also finished before the storm. This is the largest water spreading spread-ing project for range betterment to have been accomplished on the Dixie National Forest to date, Mr. Haywood said. Grasses Planted On lhat area of good soil, grasses such as crested wheat-grass, wheat-grass, slender wheatgrass, orchard or-chard grass, smoolh brome, and timothy were used, and clovers such as yellow sweet clover, la-dir.o la-dir.o clover, alsike clover, and alfalfa were seeded in front of Dixie harrows. It is believed that especially good stands of forage i can be obtained through scientific scien-tific methods of water-spreading on areas where artificial seeding jls done to again get the better ora re plants started and where m intermittent supply of water, i an be expected.
