Show Congressman Granger Is Speaker At Rotary Meeting Congressman Walter K. Granger, Grang-er, speaking before the Cedar City Rotary club Tuesday noon, warned that if the United States j is to operate on a "pay as you go" basis, either their must be' an increase in taxes or a reduction reduc-tion in expenditures. The speaker pointed out that international . aid cannot be continued con-tinued unless an increase in taxes tax-es is made. He stated that the administration had cut personnel about 10 per cent this year, but that that was only a drop in the bucket in the overall picture. "Appropriations have totaled, about 70 billion dollars", he said, "which will leave a deficit of about 5 billion dollars. Next year the appropriation will probably prob-ably reach 90 billion dollars, most of which will go to the army, navy and foreign aid." Congressman Granger, who is a member of the finance committee com-mittee charged with the responsibility respon-sibility of providing funds for international activities, was introduced in-troduced at the Rotary meeting by D. C. Dix. The program was in charge of the Trade Relations committee commit-tee of Rotary with Truman Rollins Rol-lins as chairman. |
