Show Iron County Red Cross Sets Blood Bank Program; Committee Named Whitney Jensen was named chairman of the Blood Trogram committee organized by the Iron County chapter board Nov. 13. Other members of the committee include Francis Betonson, Cliff Ewing, Mrs. Iva Jones and Doctors Doc-tors R. G. Williams and P. K. Edmunds. Ed-munds. The new appointees, all connected with Red Cross service are representatives of several local lo-cal civic organizations. Others will be added in the near future, chapter chairman G. O. Larson, announced. Mr. Welch Boyer, blood program pro-gram field representative, was present at the meeting Tuesday evening and told of the Red Cross assignment to secure nearly near-ly three million pints of blood by next July. This is for defense purposes over and above civilian needs. The American public is being asked to donate 300,000 pints of blood per month. He explained ex-plained the organization of the Regional Blood Bank being established es-tablished in Salt Lake City which will serve Utah and bordering communities. Also the processes by which local Red Cross chapters chap-ters may participate through cooperation co-operation with local medical. hospital and health organizations organiza-tions were discussed. The Iron County chanter has found full cooperation from all three of these services and Is making application to the area office in San Francisco for participation par-ticipation in the Salt Lake Regional Re-gional blood center Mr. Larson said. Mr. Boyer assured the Iron County Red Cross board and the blood program committee that a military blood procurement train may be expected in Cedar City by the middle of December. Bloodmobiles from the Regional Blood center will arrive early in 1952. The Cedar City Lions club has volunteered Its services In donor recruitment and Is organized for complete cooperation With the Red Cross program. C. B.
