Show Wilford Bentley To Retire From Forest Service Wilford Bentley, U. S. Forest Ranger for the past 33 years, will retire from service on Dee. 31, 1954, according to Albert Albert-son, Albert-son, supervisor of the Dixie National Na-tional Forest. Bentley is one of the old timers tim-ers in the Forest Service. He was employed as a forest guard on the old Sevier Forest for a short time in 1917 and received his permanent appointment in 1919 when he was assigned to this same forest with headquarters In Panguitch. In 1922 he was assigned as-signed to the Rabbit Valley Dls- trlct on the old Powell Forest with headquarters at Teasdale and in 1910 he was transferred to the Navajo Lake District of the Dixie National Forest where he has been district ranger until un-til retirement. He has been one of the outstanding rangers of the intermountain region, Albert-son Albert-son said. The only break in Bent ley's Forest Service career came in 1917 when he enlisted in the Marine Ma-rine Corps where he served In World War I until the war was over. Following that service he returned to his work with the forest for-est service and has remained with the service until now. A native of Parowan, Bentley attended elementary schools. His high school education was completed com-pleted at the B Y High School in Provo and he continued his education at the Branch Normal School here In Cedar City. Bentley Is married to the former form-er Velta Schow of Tropic. The Bentleys have a family of two sons and two daughters. They have seven grandchildren. He and Mrs. Bentley plan to make their home in Cedar City after hi' retirement, Mr. Albertson said. |
