Show Former Cedar City Youth Plunges to Death In Mountain Climbing Accident in Nevada The 12-year old son of a former Cedar City coupje was killed instantly in-stantly in a hiking mishap at Henderson, Nev., last week. The youngster, Tommy Jones, son of Thomas H. and Ann Lunt Jones, tumbled from a ledge on Black Mountain near Henderson. Companions reported that he .stumbled and fell from the ledge plunging straight down a distance dis-tance of about 35 feet to a rocky ledge, landing headfirst, then roiling another 90 feet down the steep hillside. Tommy, with his sister, a youngor brother and several other oth-er children, had gone to the .mountain on a picnic hike. He jwas apparently killed instantly I as his head struck the rocky I ledge. Cause of death was given as a skull fracture. As soon as the accident occurred, oc-curred, Paulette Radley, 13, climbed downn the mountain jside and ran to town, about five miles, to get help, while the victim's vic-tim's younger brother, Dickie, 10, climbed to his brother's side and remained alone with him for about two hours until the rescue squad arrived. The boy's mother, Ann Lunt Jones, is a sister of Mrs. Eldro Rigby of Cedar City, and Mr. and Mrs. Jones resided here for about seven years after their marriage before moving to Nevada. He is survived by his parents, a sister, Carol Ann, 14; two brothers, Larry, Lar-ry, 11, and Dick. 8. Also surviving surviv-ing are his grandparents, Mr. 'and Mrs. Thomas L. Jones, Hen-iderson. Hen-iderson. and grandmother, Mrs. 'Etta Lunt, St. George. I Funeral services were conducted conduct-ed Dec. 21 at the Henderson Fifth-Sixth Ward chapel with j Bishop Marlin Walker officiating. , Burial was in Memory Gardens at Las Vegas. Mr. and Mrs. Rigby Rig-by of Cedar City attended the services. |
