Show Southern Utah Road Projects for 1955 Two major and very important road construction projects on Highway 91 In Washington and Iron Counties are included in the 1955-56 program of Federal Aid Highway construction announced an-nounced this week by the Utah State Road Commission. The projects pro-jects are among a number over the state that are planned at a total cost of $11,166,000, according accord-ing to D. II. Whittenburg, chairman chair-man of the commission. The Iron County project is for the reconstruction of 15.7 miles of the Buckhorn Flat road, a stretch of highway that has been badly in need of widening and improving for a long time. The road - across the flat, while straight except for a few turns, is narrow and with present day speeds, is recognized as a hazardous haz-ardous section of the highway. The cost of the project is tentatively ten-tatively set at $800,000, and will Include the section of the road from the new project completed last year, 15.7 miles this way to a point near Paragonah. The Washington County project pro-ject includes that section of Highway High-way 91 between Harrisburg and Leeds, a narrow and very wind ing section of highway. A total ' of $350,000 is set up by the state road commission for this project. Another project in Iron County Is included in the program, a secondary highway project. This will Include improvement of sev-en sev-en miles of road in the Escalante Valley from Beryl Junction toward to-ward Beryl, with $160,000 set up for the project. Two other projects In the Southwestern part of the state are in Garfield and Millard counties. coun-ties. The Garfield project is a bridge and approaches over Paria Creek at a cost of $300,000, and the Millard project includes $170,000 for construction of the road from Lone Tree to Harding. |
